Apple M2 SoC will debut in the first half of 2022 alongside the colorful MacBook Air. Apple is reportedly testing multiple prototypes of its next-generation MacBook Air with a colorful design and the M2 chip and is expected to launch the notebook in the first half of 2022.
The new MacBook Air is expected to feature with include enhanced performance, colors, and design. The company is also expected to be working on a low-end MacBook Pro and an all-new Mac Pro.
According to a known tipster, claimed that a new MacBook Air model is “on track” to launch in the first half of 2022, featuring an M2 chip and a more colorful design. They also claimed that the “M1X” chip is being reserved for high-end “Pro” Macs, which could include the MacBook Pro and a larger, more powerful iMac model.
According to a report, the company is also rumored to be working on another M1X chip, which is rumored to be launched this year. The company is currently working on a higher-end redesigned MacBook Air, which could launch at the end of 2021 and it would be powered by the successor to the M1 chipset.
Dylandkt has been resolute in previous comments about the “M1X” being destined for the next-generation MacBook Pro, while the “M2” will apparently be a lower-end chip for the MacBook Air, but it is worth noting that this does not seem to fit very well with the specific thoughts of reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman about Apple’s upcoming custom silicon chips for the Mac.
The next-gen chipset is codenamed Staten and is stated to have the same number of cores as M1. However, Staten is said to have faster computing cores compared to the M1.
The M1X will be supported by TSMC’s N5P process. A refined version of the 5 nm node, is being used for the current M1. The chip may have a similar core architecture as the M1, namely Firestorm and Icestorm cores. While Apple M2 will have fewer CPU cores contrary to the M1X.
Apart from leaks and speculations, not much is known about the upcoming MacBook Air. In addition, Apple is expected to use mini-LED displays on its MacBook Air models that were going to launch in 2022. Moreover, the MacBook Air will be available in Yellow, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Blue, and Silver color options.
