Leica is entering the crowded smartphone segment with the launch of its first handset which is Leitz Phone 1. Leica has always been into smartphone camera systems before, but its the first time that Leica has launched their own smartphone Leitz Phone 1.
The smartphone isn’t a completely new phone; however, it is more of a rebadged Sharp Aquos R6. It seems like Leica admit this part, and they even compared it next to the Sharp Aquos R6 in the keynote event. While things are different from the outside, many things remain the same on the internal part.
The Leitz Phone 1 sports a 20-megapixel 1-inch sensor with f/1.9 ultra wide lens. The handset also features a magnetic lens cap for the circular camera setup at the rear for protection. The Leitz Phone 1 features a 6.6-inch UXGA (2,730×1,260 pixels) OLED display with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The handset runs on Android 11 and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal Storage (which can be further expandable upto 1TB via MicroSD card).
Moving to imaging, the Leitz Phone 1 features a 20-megapixel 1-inch sensor with f/1.9 aperture ultra-wide lens at the rear whereas at the front, the handset features a 12.6-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. Moreover, the Leitz Phone 1 also sports a monochrome mode at the rear for taking pictures in black and white color mode.
The Leica Leitz Phone 1 is backed by a 5,000mAh battery on top. The handset connectivity options include USB Type-C port for charging, Bluetooth v5.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 ax, VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi. The Leica Leitz Phone 1 measures about 74x162x9.5mm and weighs 212 grams.
Leitz Phone 1: Pricing & Availability
The Leitz Phone 1 is available at a price of JPY 187,920 (Rs. 1,25,800). The handset is available in a single Leica Silver color variant. The Leitz Phone 1 is Listed on the SoftBank site and will be available for sale in Japan in the month of July. There has been no information regarding the sales in India yet.
