iPhone 13 launch will take place in the third week of September, an investment firm has reported. The iPhone 13 Pro models in the series are also reported to have up to a 1TB storage option — an upgrade over the existing 512GB storage.
Although Apple has not provided any details about the iPhone 13 series, the rumor mill suggests that the new range could comprise four distinct models — iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone 13 mini.
A report cites “foreign media” who apparently learned through supply chain partners that Apple might be increasing the battery charging speeds of some iPhone 13 models to a peak current of 25W.
According to the report citing sources in Apple’s supply chain, the iPhone 13 series may support up to 25W fast charging. While this is not a significant leap, it should result in a minor improvement in the overall charging time.
A new charger means that users with a next-gen iPhone wanting to take advantage of higher charging speeds will have to buy a new charger since Apple no longer includes a charging adapter in the box. Corroborating earlier reports, the Los Angeles, California-headquartered investment firm stated that the entire iPhone 13 lineup would feature the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanning technology.
This is unlike the iPhone 12 series where iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max were the only models to have LiDAR sensors. However, a recent report by market research firm TrendForce presumed that LiDAR sensors would be limited to the Pro models in the series.
The iPhone 12 series maxes out at a 20W fast charging speed. Apple began selling an 18W USB Type-C power adapter that also came bundled with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. In 2020, that adapter was replaced with a slightly more powerful one with 20W.
A report in 9to5Mac says that it is uncertain that Apple will once again upgrade its USB type-C adapter to deliver more power for the iPhone 13 if the rumor is correct. However, it is still likely that Apple wants to catch up to the competition in this aspect, so may introduce 25W fast charging on the iPhone 13 series. The report also says that Apple will continue to sell the charging adapter separately.
Apple could upgrade augmented reality (AR) experiences by offering LiDAR scanners across its 2021 iPhone lineup. The company is also expected to have the iPhone 13 Pro models with 1TB storage. Some reports suggested that the iPhone 13 series would come with an Apple Watch-like Always-on display and include Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
There could also be faster wireless charging and two new color options which are Pearl and Sunset Gold. Moreover, you will have to buy the charger separately since iPhones no longer ship with chargers in the box. You will only get a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box.
