Intel has announced the arrival of its newest desktop processor, the 12th Gen Intel Core series, codenamed “Alder Lake.” Intel has revealed the 12th Gen Alder Lake processors for desktop PCs for performance boosts and better power efficiency.
The 12th gen Intel core series comprises six fresh additions to its consumer-oriented stable of Core i9-12900K, Core i7-12700K, and Core i5-12600K. Users can find the KF versions that signify the lack of the Intel UHD Graphics 770 integrated GPU on the processors. The processors are based on the 10nm fabrication process.
The Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake processors have a combination of multiple P-cores for intensive tasks and E-cores for lighter tasks that don’t need a lot of power. The 6-core i9-12900K has 8 P-cores and 8 E-cores for a total of 24 threads.
The 10-core i5-12600K has 6 P-cores and 4 E-cores for a total of 16 threads. In addition, the latest 12th Gen processors feature DDR5 memory for up to 4800MT/s and PCIe 5.0, which offers up to 2X I/O throughput over PCIe 4.0, with up to an additional four lanes of PCIe 4.0 support.
The Company said in a statement, “With a max turbo boost of up to 5.2 GHz and as many as 16 cores and 24 threads, the new desktop processors reach new heights of multi-threaded performance for enthusiast gamers and professional creators”.
Intel’s Alder Lake processors are incredibly fast in terms of gaming as they can run games 20 percent faster than Rocket Lake. It also offers high performance compared to AMD’s 5950X processor. The new 12th-Gen Alder Lake CPUs features an Intel performance hybrid architecture.
According to Company, the new processors are now the world’s best gaming-focused desktop processors compared to AMD’s Ryzen 5950X running the 31 high-end titles. The users will experience a 19% improvement in performance. The Intel Core i9-12900K features 16 cores/24 threads that include eight performance cores at 3.2GHz (base) and 5.2GHz (turbo) with eight efficiency cores at 2.4GHz (bottom) and 3.9GHz (turbo).
The Intel Core i7-12700K features 12 cores/20 threads that include eight performance cores at 3.6GHz and 5.0GHz with four efficiency cores at 2.7GHz and 3.8GHz. The Intel Core i5-12600K features ten cores/16 threads that comprise six performance cores at 3.7GHz and 4.9GHz with four efficiency cores at 2.8GHz and 3.6GHz.
Intel has combined its work with Microsoft to better optimize these processors’ performance on the new Windows 11 devices. Panos Panay, executive vice president and chief product officer, Microsoft, said, “We’re at the beginning of a new era for the PC led by the introduction of Windows 11.”
According to Company, Windows 11 and Intel’s new Thread Director technology. Users will see their PC performance reach new heights on the new 12th Gen Intel Core family of processors. The Alder Lake lineup consists of six processors that utilize a combination of Golden Cove high-performance cores (P-cores) and Gracemont power-saving cores (E-cores) designed for scalable multi-threaded workload performance.
