Huawei Mate X2 Launched: Everything You Need to Know

Huawei’s second generation foldable: the Mate X2 is finally here. The smartphone was launched via a stream from China a couple hours back. Huawei has finally done away with it’s outward folding display, the Mate X2 fold inwards, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The phone comes with a 6.45-inch 90 Hz OLED on the front and an 8-inch 90 Hz OLED inside. Here is everything you need to know about the Huawei Mate X2.

Huawei Mate X2 Specifications

The Huawei Mate X2 sports an 8-inch 90 Hz flexible OLED display on the inside that comes with no notch or hole punch what so ever. The screen has a resolution of 2480 x 2200 and a squarish 8:7.1 aspect ratio. The outside display on the other hand is a 6.45-inch 90 Hz OLED with a resolution of 2700 x 1160. The phone is powered by a Kirin 9000 5G SoC, based on the 5nm process and comes with a Mali-G78 GPU and a dual core neural engine. The chipset can be paired with 8 GB of RAM and either 256 or 512 GB of expandable storage.

The phone weighs a hefty 295 grams and is 14.7mm thick folded and a mere 8.2mm thick unfolded. The Huawei Mate X2 is equipped with Leica sensors and comes with a 50 MP primary sensor with f/1.9 and Optical Image Stabilisation(OIS), a 16MP Ultra Wide lens with f/2.2, a 12MP telephoto lens which can zoom 3x with OIS and an 8MP 10X Periscope Lens also with OIS. The Mate X2 supports 20X Hybrid Zoom and 100X Digital Zoom. To the front, the Mate X2 comes with a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls.

The Phone is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery which juices up at 55W. Additional features on the Mate X2 include WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and a fingerprint sensor. The Huawei Mate X2 unfortunately doesn’t come with Google services due to the US trade ban. The Phone runs on Android 10 with Huawei’s EMUI 11 Skin on top.

Huawei Mate X2 Price and Availability

The Huawei Mate X2 starts at CNY 17,999 (~ Rs 2,02,000) for the 256GB storage variant and CNY 18,999 (~ Rs 2,13,000) for the 512GB storage variant. The price is in the ball park for most foldable phones these days barring the Escobar Fold 2 which you absolutely shouldn’t buy.
