New Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro Officially Announced with 90Hz OLED display and Triple-Flip Cameras

Asus has unveiled its flagship devices for 2020 in the Zenfone series dubbed as the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro. The smartphones announced today are the successors for the previously launched Zenfone 6 (Global) or 6z (India). The newly revealed Zenfone devices come equipped with top-notch internals for the flagship experience that they offer.

The company has launched two different devices that bring the same internals almost but gets a slight edge over the chipsets used. The higher variant comes with a higher version of chipset and the regular variant gets a non-plus version of Qualcomm’s chipset. The Flip-camera used in the predecessor got a major update with an additional camera for a better experience in capturing pictures.

Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro Specification Details 

The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro gets powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC which is used in the company’s ROG Phone 3 smartphone and that makes up for the Pro suffix. The regular Zenfone 7 gets powered by the Snapdragon 865, not the plus variant even though both the performance is pretty great if compared.

The display featured on both devices is a 6.67-inches FHD+ AMOLED Panel that gets protected by the Gorilla Glass 6 and supports the 90Hz refresh rate and 200Hz touch sampling rate. The screen has a brightness up to 1,000 nits with additional features such as Always-on-display and DC dimming for flicker-free low-brightness operation.

The devices come packed with 6/8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage with a dedicated triple slot for expandability of storage through SD card and Dual-Sim for mobile connectivity. The Asus Zenfone 7 series uses a Flip-Camera for capturing front and rear portraits. The mechanism is assured for 100 flips a day for 5 years straight and can withstand up to 35 kg of weight.

The Triple-cameras consist of a primary 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor with 2×1 OCL autofocus. The secondary lens is a 12MP IMX363 ultrawide-angle sensor with Dual Pixel AF for better tracking of the objects while capturing. The third lens is a new upgraded edition for the device which comes with an 8MP Telephoto lens. The sensor has an 80mm lens for the 3x optical zoom and is equipped with OIS as like on the main camera and the regular version has no OIS.

The cameras support video recording up to 8K resolution at 30 fps and 120 fps slow motion at 4K resolution. The HDR video mode has made it to this device for improved night mode algorithms. These cameras can get used in the front as well as the cameras are in Flip-mechanism which makes it a huge advantage for users. The Asus Zenfone 7 series comes packed with 5000 mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.

The Asus Zenfone 7 series has a unique feature to control the charging in an advanced manner by limiting the maximum charge to 80% or 90% with schedule management for a healthy battery life overall. The fingerprint sensor gets placed on the side and the 3.5mm jack gets removed which is a disappointment. The company has brought in an aptX Adaptive support. for better audio experience on wireless accessories instead.

Asus has provided an Active Case for the Zenfone 7 series which protects the phone and the flip-up camera. The price for the regular Zenfone 7 with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage is NT$21,990 or $750, and the 7 Pro with 8GB RAM, 256GB storage model gets priced at NT$27,990 or $950 approx. The smartphone got officially launched in Taiwan for now and is expected to launch globally on September 1.
