What was rumoured to be called as the AirPods Studio have now been launched as the AirPods Max. The release was followed after multiple rumours hinted at a December 8 launch date for Apple’s newest over ear headphones, the AirPods Max. The AirPods Max have released globally and shipping will begin on 15 December. The product has already been listed on the Apple India website. The AirPods Max are available in 5 colour options: Pink, Green, Blue, Space Grey, and Silver.
AirPods Max Specifications
The AirPods Max is Apple’s first Over Ear pair of Headphones in the AirPods lineup. The earcups are made of machined aluminium and are said to be attached to a unique suspension system that flexes with the stainless steel headband which is covered in a mesh knit canopy to fit varying head sizes. The earcups of the AirPods Max have an “acoustically optimised” net that surrounds the magnetically attached cushions. Apple says that the combination of material provides a superior passive seal for a better noise-cancelling experience.
The AirPods Max feature custom 40 mm drivers and is powered by Apple’s own H1 chip. There are a total of 9 microphones and 8 of them support Active Noise Cancellation or ANC. Similar to the AirPods Pro, this also has a dedicated transparency button. The headphones connect to other devices via Bluetooth 5.0
Apple claims the battery life of the AirPods Max to be 20 hours with ANC. These headphones also feature spatial audio which track head movment using Accelerometers and Gyroscopes to optimise sound in real time. Apart from the ANC switch, the AirPods Pro also has a crown similar to the Apple Watch to play/pause/skip tracks, activate Siri or control volume. The headphones also feauture quick charge where 5 minutes of charging gives 1.5 hours of listening time.
Price and Availability
The AirPods Max are priced at $549 in the US which converts to about Rs. 40,500 but with customs and logistics, the AirPods Max retail for Rs. 59,900 in India
The AirPods Max is available for purchase on the Apple India website now and it will ship starting 15 December. It will be available for purchase through other apple resellers starting 15 December. The headphones also come with a smart case and a USB type- C to lightning cable for charging.
